Miami

Miami

Miami boasts glamour, elegance and a cosmopolitan attitude, and as it is nestled on the Atlantic coast of Florida’s most southern tip, this beaming city is also sunny and pleasantly warm all year round. To just call this metropolis international is an understatement of criminal proportions, due to its North American core with a twist of Caribbean culture, a healthy dose of Latin America, a dash of Africa, a touch of Asia and a hint of Europe. All these elements and their fascinating blend give Miami a vibrant and exhilarating cultural life that needs to be experienced.

Miami has unlimited ways to charm visitors, as the city’s natural beauty and its surroundings are breathtaking while its great climate offers chances in outdoor activities pretty much all year round. While staying close to the city will allow you to enjoy some of the best beaches in the planet, do also explore a little further from the city proper and visit the wonders of the Everglades or the Florida Keys. Even though the weather nearly forces you to stroll around in the sun, Miami’s architectural past and its vibrant art scene will tempt you to spend some time indoors, and the warmth of the vastly international population will make you want to stay here for good.

Top things to do in Miami

With a relaxed beach life and Cuban-bred passion for partying, this Floridian metropolis is a pastel paradise for people watching. And animals too! Here are Miami’s top 6 attractions.

    Fisher Island
Home to superstars and the mega-rich, the most affluent corner of the US isn’t open to just anyone, but you can get pretty close to Fisher Island on a boat tour of the bay.

    Miami Seaquarium
“Flipper” was filmed at the US’ oldest oceanarium on Virginia Key, but there are more creatures at the Miami Seaquarium than just performing marine animals – aquatic and otherwise!

    Gator Park
Gator Park is the place to go if you want to see alligators, of course, but take an airboat tour of this Everglades attraction for snakes, turtles, and exotic birds too!

    South Beach
Home to the famous Ocean Drive, the first part of Miami to be developed is arguably still the most… well, Miami-ish. South Beach remains one of the city’s best beaches too.

    Vizcaya Museum & Gardens
Once known as Villa Vizcaya, this opulent estate is now open to the public to walk around and think about moving there upon winning the lottery.

    Bass Museum of Art
With art from the Renaissance to the present day, the city’s leading gallery occupies Miami Beach’s old public library building.

    Planning Your Miami Visit

    When to go?

The city’s basketball team is called the Miami Heat for a reason. The tropical monsoon climate means it’s always hot, although you can expect thunderstorms in summer and hurricane season runs for as long as June to November. Nevertheless, it’s perfect for sunbathing in winter!

    How many days?

Most of Miami Beach’s best attractions can be covered in 3 or 4 days, but book at least a week if you want to see more of the city and/or go to the Everglades.

    How safe is it?

Despite its depiction in movies, much of Miami is pretty safe. Like most cities though, it has parts tourists would be smart to avoid. High-crime areas include Biscayne Boulevard, Liberty City, Opa-Locka, and Overtown. Unlike the others, you might have reason to go to Miami’s Downtown district, but stay alert, especially after dark.

What people are saying about Miami

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good but it takes longer than the list.
The tour was a nice but they showed in print that it was a duration of 4 hrs when in fact from the 11:30 start time at their tour office until we got back to the dock at 4:30 was 5 hours and then we had to walk back to the bus drop off point to get the bus back to the tour office starting point. The first bus that pulled up could not fit everyone so they told us we had to wait for the next bus. We needed to go back to our hotel and then go immediately to the airport so we ended up taking a Lyft back to save time and it was hot waiting for the bus in the sun. The bus tour was a short tour around Miami with a half-hour stop in Little Havana. It would be better if they gave us earphones and allowed you to pick your preferred language to listen to rather than a guy speaking over a microphone in English and then Spanish. Sometimes the sound was not very clear. After the bus they bring you to a restaurant next to the boat pier hoping you’ll eat there, we had from 1-3 before the boat left.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good value for money tour. Great show and boat ride.
We booked this and were there early. But the bus had already left – we saw it leave 7-8 minutes early as we were approaching the pick-up point! We contacted the company and got rebooked for the next day. We caught this bus and it was a great day. The show was entertaining and the boat rides both fun and great for seeing the wildlife in the Everglades. Saw a few gators up close which was awesome!

From Miami: Half-Day Trip to National Everglades Gator Park reviewed by Paul

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An excellent trip for a first timer in the USA and in particular Miami
An excellent trip for a first timer in the USA and in particular Miami, Florida. My family and I did enjoy this trip, we were on the bus quickly and belted in. There where few people on the trip although we did stop by some pickup points, like hotels etc along the way. It did take around an hour to get there and once we arrived were given clear information on the pickup times 3 to be exact, then allowed to go about the mall ourselves as we wanted. This is a big mall and a lot of the stores are the high end so bring a lot of spending cash/cards, there are quite a few discount stores here as well so you won’t be completely out of pocket. The discount passport book they give you is good but we found a few opportunities. While there we did visit a few stores we also visited a food establishment called yard House the food was amazing and a good selection of beers on tap. This mall has a lot to offer I would highly recommend it to anyone who visits Florida and in particular Miami or Orlando

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great to see the highlights in Miami in less than a day!
We had a nice time wandering by the city highlights. It was hot so if you book this in the summer period: bring sunscreen. But the tour guy was really nice and told a lot aboutt what we saw. After the bus tour, we had great food. Then we went to the boat tour wich most of it is going by celebrity’s homes. Nice to see though.
