Dubai

Dubai

Dubai has transformed from a humble fishing village to one of the most cosmopolitan and innovative cities in the world today. Tracing its origins back to 3,000 BC, Dubai's inhabitants made their livelihood from fishing, pearl diving, boat building, and sea trading, before the discovery of oil in the late 1960s. In 1971, Dubai joined its neighbors to form the United Arab Emirates, safeguarding the area's prosperity.

With year-round sun and a dramatic combination of both the desert and beach, Dubai is the perfect setting to be swept away by high-adrenaline activities. Rocket across the Arabian Gulf in a speedboat or roar along the circuit in a race car, skydive over Palm Jumeirah, ski around The World, paddleboard along the coast or swim with dolphins and sharks. You can even leave the city and dune bash in the desert or soar above the sand in a hot air balloon. Fasten your seatbelt, harness or helmet — it’s going to be an exciting ride.

Top Attractions You Must See in Dubai

Dubai has transformed itself in recent years with a series of creative, ambitious construction projects that have catapulted this city to the top of every bucket list. Here are a few attractions you won’t want to miss when you visit this desert hotspot.

    Burj Khalifa
At 829.8 meters tall, the Burj Khalifa stands proudly as the world’s tallest building. Visit the observation deck on the 124th floor for a gravity-defying, jaw-dropping view.

    Dubai Fountains
Brought to you by the same team behind the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas, the Dubai Fountain show is a true spectacle. Grab a seat in a nearby cafe, and take it all in.

    Burj al Arab
Dubai is home to the world’s tallest hotel, the Burj Al-Arab. If you can’t afford the $15,000/night luxury suite, try dining amongst the sea creatures in the underwater restaurant!

    Palm Islands
There are two palm-shaped artificial islands off the coast. Palm Jumeirah already houses luxury villas and a waterpark. The larger Palm Jebel Ali is still under construction.

    Jumeirah Beach
Dubai gets some intense sun. And that means you’ll be needing a beach. Jumeirah Beach is the best sandy strip in town, and the hub of hotels makes it a great home base for tourists.

    Dubai Museum
The Dubai museum is housed inside the 18th century Al-Fahidi Fort. Learn about the Emirates expansion after the oil boom, and examine traditional Emirati musical instruments.

    Planning Your Dubai Visit

How many days should you spend in Dubai?

It really depends. There is wide and varied opinion on the perfect length of stay in Dubai, and with everything in life, it really depends on your preferences and your aim. Some people come only for sightseeing, and for them 3-5 days might be enough for an express visit. The weather gets very hot between May and September, and uncomfortable if you aren’t used to the desert heat.

What is the best location to stay in Dubai?

We have identified four main areas in Dubai that could potentially be the best place for you to stay in: near Burj Khalifa (Dubai’s Downtown), Jumeirah Beach, Dubai Marina and The Palm Jumeirah.

    Be conscious of cultural differences

If you are heading to Dubai for the first time, you may have questions about the laws that Western tourists consider unusual. In short, be respectful. Dress conservatively and make sure your shoulders are covered. Public displays of affection are considered unlawful. Also, the consumption of alcohol in public is illegal, except in specified bars.

What people are saying about Dubai

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Burj Khalifa: spectacular & L148/skylounge exceeded all expectations.
The Burj Khalifa was on the list of Dubai must-do activities, but I only booked at the last minute. A recommendation from people met on a desert tour was “do the 148th floor”. That was one of the best pieces of travel advice that I could have been given. It’s not cheap, but the beat-the-queue process coupled with the calm and tranquility of the sky lounge shifted the experience up to more than just 23 floors. I was able to relax, drink coffee, view quietly, take as many photos as I wanted, and get real value from the time at the top. The one tip I would give to others: allow plenty of time on the way in and out. There are truly interesting displays at ground level, and they are easy to be rushed-through.
