Munich

In Munich exclusive shopping, fashionable streets and monumental buildings co-exist with Lederhosen, brass music and rustic beer halls. Visitors can start their day in a simple bar with knuckle of pork and sauerkraut, and end it in a gourmet temple with white linen tablecloths. Moreover, Germany’s most cheerful residents live here.

Munich has come to be associated with the Oktoberfest, the Hofbräuhaus, the Olympic grounds and the Fasching carnival. However, Munich also has an international reputation as a metropolis of both, art and culture. Its music scene ranges from classical to jazz and pop and the many museums display impressive collections.

Planning Your Munich Visit

How many days to spend in Munich?

If you’re just going to tick the city off the list, then 3 days will satisfy any tourist’s sightseeing needs. But for a more relaxed trip and to really get to know the city, a week’s stay will be much more suitable.

Where to stay?

With public transport being so efficient, location depends on what you want your experience to be. If you want to be close to the main sights, then look for something in Altstadt. For a more modest budget, look in Ludwigsvorstadt near the Hauptbahnhof and the Oktoberfest grounds. Or if you’re in the city for the nightlife, then Schwabing, Maxvorstadt, and the Gärtnerplatzviertel-Glockenbachviertel areas will be your best bet.

What people are saying about Munich

★★★★★ An excellent trip that exceeded our expectations.

A special mention to our guide Sarah who not only allowed us to learn so much more about the castle than if we had visited independently but also to help us with loads of tips for first time visitors to Munich. Please pass on our thanks, Peter & Judith Jackson

★★★★★ Very Informative Guide - wonderful walk around Munich

We were lucky enough to have a beautiful sunny autumn day for our tour - Alex - the Guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, and gave us a wonderful tour around a number of the key areas in Munich’s History. We would highly recommend the tour to others

★★★★★ Highly recommend, our guide was an excellent story teller!

Jax was our tour guide and he has a great gift for story telling, he left us on the “edge of our seat!” He was easy going, helpful and very nice who even gave other recommendations for activities and restaurants to do in Munich. I would highly recommend him for other tours. Only issue was no hotel pickup and meet place was in a busy area, a little confusing to find.
